PHYSICAL FAULT DOMAIN DETERMINATION MODULE AND METHOD

A method to determine a physical fault domain in a digital subscriber line access network for execution by a physical fault domain determination module is described. The method comprises the steps of :
- collecting metallic line testing measurements by means of a metallic line testing module; and
- embedding the metallic line testing module and a single ended line testing module on an identical Digital Subscriber Line board; and
- determining based upon the metallic line testing measurements a metallic line testing domain separation reference; and
- collecting single ended line testing measurements by means of the single ended line testing module; and
- based upon the collected single ended line testing measurements determining, in the event of a fault occurrence in the access network, a fault location of the fault for comparison of the fault location with the domain separation reference and determination of a physical fault domain for the particular fault.
