PURPOSE: A control system for a vehicle is provided to prevent the rise of supply hydraulic of a friction element by delaying time which is required to complete the coupling of the friction element. CONSTITUTION: An oil pump is driven by driving force of an engine(5) and generates fluid pressure. An engine automatic stop means(19) is installed between the engine and a driving wheel. The engine automatic stop means automatically stops the engine when an engine automatic stop condition is established. The engine automatic stop means re-starts the engine when the engine automatic stop condition is not established. A position change over detection means(12) detects that a friction element is changed into a driving position. A friction element coupling means supplies the fluid pressure.
