PURPOSE: A synchronization apparatus between a scanning section and a multicasting section in a broadband wireless access system and method thereof are provided to prevent the degradation of multicast service quality by establishing scanning cycle patterns. CONSTITUTION: A modem(620) receives information for a multicast group from an application server. A control unit(640) determines a scanning cycle pattern and scan offset. The scanning cycle pattern and the scan offset determine a scanning cycle of a multicast service corresponding to the multicast group. The control unit establishes a scanning cycle according to the scan offset and the scanning cycle pattern. The control unit receives the scanning and multicast data according to the scanning cycle pattern.
