摘要 PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing magnesium hydride is provided to improve the storage density of hydrogen and to obtain a uniform particle size for the magnesium hydride powder at low temperatures. CONSTITUTION: Magnesium powder is introduced into a reaction tube surrounded by a chamber containing a high temperature hydrogenating synthesizer. A cover seals the chamber. Hydrogen gas is supplied into the reaction tube through a gas supplying pipe such that the pressure of hydrogen is adjusted into a range between 5 and 80 bars. The chamber is heated to raise the internal temperature of the reaction tube to a reaction temperature which is lower than the melting point of magnesium. The magnesium is vaporized at the reaction temperature. The vaporized magnesium is reacted with hydrogen to synthesize magnesium hydride at a temperature between 550 and 620 degrees Celsius.
