<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hopper, with which drying and preheating of a raw material of a blast furnace are carried out by an inexpensive method, the heat quantity charged into a furnace is reduced in the operation of a blast furnace, the amount of a powdery raw material introduced into the blast furnace is reduced and the gas flow in the furnace is thus made appropriate, and the stable operation of the blast furnace is thereby achieved. <P>SOLUTION: Hoppers 1 and 2 store raw materials of the blast furnace. Each of the hoppers 1 and 2 has, in the side wall thereof, a gas supply port 11 through which a heating gas from a blast generating source 13 is supplied into each of the hoppers.
