A composition of improved transparency comprises a branched-chain polyethylene and up to 10% of a modifier which is a paraffin, or a polymer of an olefin, containing chemically combined phosphorus. The modifier may be obtained by reaction in an inert medium with phosphorus trichloride and oxygen followed by refining with an alcohol, phenol or water. The compositions find application as sheet or film.
