<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handheld terminal which can be used in various aspects of people's lives. <P>SOLUTION: With regard to a multi-function handheld user terminal having a plurality of selectable modes of operation corresponding to various area of people's lives, each mode puts limits on accessing of database, applications, configuration and operation. Various mechanism for switching between the modes may be provided.
