<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hierarchical structure that has at least one carbon nanotube extending radially from a nanofiber substrate; to provide a method of using the same; and to provide a method of manufacturing the same. <P>SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a metal-containing nanofiber includes the steps of: electrospinning a solution comprising an electrospinnable polymer and at least one metal to produce a metal-containing nanofiber; and carbonizing the resultant metal-containing nanofiber; and using a metal and a hydrocarbon compound as a catalyst and a raw material, respectively, to form the carbon nanotube, wherein the metal is Ag, Fe, Pd, Ni or Co.
