Provided is a database management method that controls, with a computer equipped with a processor, a memory, and a storage apparatus, an in-memory type database that stores tables and indices therefor within the memory, and a disk type database that stores a portion of a table thereof, which is stored within the storage apparatus, in a buffer provided within the memory. The computer obtains information about the tables and indices of the in-memory type database, determines the type of reduction operation to be executed for reducing the memory space to be used by the indices, executes the type of reduction operation determined for the indices, adds to the buffer the memory space reduced, by the reduction operation, from the memory space used by the indices of the in-memory type database, and expands the buffer of the disk type database.
