The apparatus e.g. modular switch (100), has electronic modules e.g. interface modules (200, 300), electrically interconnected with and mechanically supported at a base equipment (150) e.g. rear wall rail. The electronic modules are mechanically linked or coupled with the base equipment in a mounting position. The electronic modules are moved into an intermediate position by a pivoting movement and into a connecting position by a translatory movement. The electronic modules are electrically connected with the base equipment and mechanically connected with each other in the connecting position. An independent claim is also included for a method for assembly of electronic modules in a base equipment.
