<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure a position of a workpiece or the like mounted on a machine tool without involving machine operation. <P>SOLUTION: This machine tool is equipped with a camera 11, a mark of a pointing rod 10 is imaged by the camera 11 in a state where the pointing rod 10 is pointed at a position used as a reference of a table 9 holding a workpiece 8, the position of the mark is calculated by image processing, and coordinate values of the reference point pointed by the pointing rod are obtained. The mark of the pointing rod 10 is imaged by the camera 11 in a state where the pointing rod 10 is pointed at a point of the workpiece 8 intended to be measured, the position of the mark is calculated by image processing, the coordinate values of the point pointed by the pointing rod are obtained, the difference thereof from the coordinate values of the reference point is obtained, and thereby three-dimensional coordinate values of the point intended to be measured with respect to the reference point are measured.
