<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical raw material heating apparatus capable of pushing a raw material on a hearth from its surface layer into a drop hole over the entire area without any residual portion in the peripheral direction. <P>SOLUTION: The raw material heating apparatus has a rod which penetrates a peripheral wall, and extends in the radial direction, and is reciprocated with the stroke in the same direction. A pusher apparatus 20 includes a main pusher 21 and a sub pusher 22 with different working conditions. Both main pusher 21 and the sub pusher 22 have a plurality of pairs of rods 21A, 22A located separately from each other in the circumferential direction. The product of the distance between the rods at both ends in the separating direction with the stroke distance at the fore end forms the moving areas P1, P2 for the pushing movement of the raw material. When viewed from the top, the moving areas P1, P2 of the main pusher and the sub pusher form the duplicate area Pd.
