<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control rod which has appropriate rigidity and sufficient strength and can suppress out-of-plane deformation occurring in a blade receiving a compression stress due to bending deformation when the control rod is subjected to horizontal shake. <P>SOLUTION: The control rod comprises: four blades extending from the axial center to four directions; handles attached to upper ends of the blades; lower supporting members attached to lower ends of the blades; and tie rods for connecting handles and lower supporting members, respectively. A plurality of openings are formed in a portion containing a curved surface at a sheath end constituting the blade of the control rod along a longitudinal direction.
