Disclosed is a method for producing an inkjet recording material, which is characterized by comprising: a step wherein a mixed liquid (a) is obtained by mixing an aqueous solution of a saponified vinyl acetate-diacetone acrylamide copolymer and a crosslinking agent; a step wherein a mixed liquid (b) is obtained by adding a water-soluble basic compound to the mixed liquid (a) after a lapse of at least 30 minutes from the mixing; and a step wherein an ink receiving layer coating liquid, which is obtained by mixing porous inorganic fine particles into the thus-obtained mixed liquid (b), is applied over a supporting body. The method for producing an inkjet recording material is also characterized in that an ink receiving layer that is formed on the supporting body by the application step contains the porous inorganic fine particles, the saponified vinyl acetate-diacetone acrylamide copolymer and the crosslinking agent.
