摘要 The surgical marker element (16) has an outer surface on which luminescent material is provided. The luminescent material is excited from low energy state to high energy state by producing electricity, pressure, electromagnetic radiation, photons, chemical stimulation or electron bombardment. The luminescent material is electro-luminescent, chemi-luminescent, thermo-luminescent, sonoluminescent, piezoelectric, luminescent or photoluminescent. The luminescent material is made of sulfide, silicate, zinc oxide or lanthanum. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) surgical correlation unit; and (2) surgical navigation system.
