The invention relates to an expandable composition containing at least one polymer selected from among the group consisting of polyvinyl chloride, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinyl butyrate, polyalkyl methacrylate, and copolymers thereof, an expanding agent and/or foam stabilizer, and terephthalic acid diisononyl ester as a plasticizer, the average branching degree of the isononyl groups of the ester ranging from 1.15 to 2.5. The invention further relates to expanded molded articles and the use of the expandable composition for floor coverings, wallpapers, or synthetic leather.
