<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet material transporting device which can detect that a rear end of a sheet material passes a predetermined position at timing earlier than that of a conventional device without losing the setting performance of the sheet material at a sheet material loading device, and an image reading device provided with the sheet material transporting device and an image forming device. <P>SOLUTION: The sheet material transporting device has a belt rotation detecting mechanism 140 which is a feeding material rotation detecting section that detects whether a feeding belt 84 rotates, and when a draft is transported by a pullout roller pair 86, the drive of a feeding motor 102 is turned off. By this, the feeding belt 84 rotates in conjunction with the draft transported by the pullout roller pair 86, and when a rear end of the draft goes through a separation nip Ab, the rotation of the feeding belt 84 is stopped.
