<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To decrease the depth dimension of an air conditioner for compact size, by forming an filter movement path for automatic cleaning of a filter in S-shape. <P>SOLUTION: A movement path for moving a filter is provided. In the movement path, an S-like bending part is formed between an open panel and a heat exchanger. A filter movement device and a dust box for cleaning the filter are provided in the middle of the movement path. In the filter, an outer frame is formed of upper and lower lateral frames and vertical frames formed in rough manner. A soft thin net is integrally formed in the outer frame which is partitioned using the vertical bars and lateral bars. A filter movement device 28 is formed as cylindrical shaft for moving the filter by rotation. A feeding shaft projection which engages with the vertical bar of the filter is provided to the center as well as to the left and right of the shaft, and a gear part is provided to one end which engages with a drive part that is rotated by a motor.
