<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide unique triglycerides useful in industrial fluids, such as a lubricant, that are derived from renewable feedstocks such as plant and animal oil-and-fat, and to provide a method of producing the same. <P>SOLUTION: A lubricant is derived from an animal or plant oil-and-fat having an iodine number above about 7, and is produced by: epoxidizing the oil-and-fat; and (1) reacting the epoxidized oil-and-fat with a carboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of a basic catalyst to produce a diester, or (2) hydrogenating the epoxidized oil-and-fat to generate mono-alcohols and acylating an alcohol functional group with acid anhydrides, acid chlorides or carboxylic acids to produce a mono-ester. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
