Rotary cutting apparatus, for use in slotting box blanks, comprises a rotary cutting head 11 having an annular groove 19 of T-shaped crosssection in which a T-bolt having a threaded shank 21, Fig. 2 (not shown), is slidably secured and a cutting blade 25 having a radial slot 23 to receive the shank. The blade is secured to the heat by a nut 27 and carries means to project and fit the groove so as to retain the blade if the nut loosens. The blade comprises a segment with its outer edge sharpened, the slot extending from its inner towards its outer periphery. The projecting means may be a pin 31 welded into a hole 29, Fig. 2 (not shown), or a shoulder 35, Fig. 3 (not shown), and alternatively the blade may be provided with an annular recess 39, Fig. 4 (not shown), to co-operate with a shoulder projecting from the head or with a counterbore 43, Fig. 5 (not shown), to receive the nut. In operation, one or more heads 11 are positioned on a shaft to cut flaps in the blanks, the number of blades required for the lengths of the slots to be cut being assembled in each head.</p> |
