<p>A lubricating oil or grease resistant to breakdown under large doses of high energy radiation is produced by copolymerizing a hydrocarbon lubricant, containing 12-26 carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon chain, with a vinyl-aromatic monomer by subjecting the mixture to a dose of high-energy radiation not greater than 107 rads. The monomer may be styrene and may comprise 10-50% of the polymerization mixture. The lubricant may contain molybdenum disulphide.ALSO:A hydrocarbon lubricant, containing 12-26 carbon atoms in the hydrocarbon chain, is copolymerized with a vinyl-aromatic monomer by subjecting the mixture to a dose of high energy radiation not greater than 107 rads.
