PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a procedure for optimization base that copes with complexity related to a network of a genome-scale.

SOLUTION: The present invention comprises: step 1 of accessing reaction of a universal database and providing stoichiometric balance; step 2 of identifying at least one pathway which minimizes some un-native functions in a production host and which is stoichiometrically balanced, at least partially based on the reaction and a substrate; steps 3 and 4 of incorporating at least one of the stoichiometrically balanced pathway in the host and providing a desired biotransformation.
