PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reading device capable of matching the base surfaces of a front-face image and a rear-face image of a document without regard to the kind of the document.

SOLUTION: The reading device of this embodiment comprises: feeding means (ADF30) which feeds the document; front-face read means (scanner part 10) which reads the front face of the document fed by the feeding means (30); and rear-face read means (CIS22) which reads the rear face of the document. The reading device detects base surface levels of the front-face image of the document obtained by reading by the front-face read means (10) and the rear-face image of the document obtained by reading by the rear-face read means (22) and adjusts the base surface level of the front-face image and that of the rear-face image to the same level.
