PURPOSE: A memory controller, a data storage system thereof, and a method thereof are provided to determine whether to compress data when the data are compressed or bypassed. CONSTITUTION: A controller(120) receives data outputted from a host and information about the data. The controller analyzes the information. The controller determines whether to compress the data. The controller compresses the data according to the determination result. A non-volatile memory device(110) stores the data compressed by the controller and information about whether the data are compressed.
