PURPOSE: A light emitting device and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve optical efficiency by reducing forward directional leakage current generated from the uppermost part of a light emitting nano rod. CONSTITUTION: A third semiconductor layer(145) is grown from a tip surface of an active layer(143). The third semiconductor layer is undoped or doped in a second type mode. A second semiconductor layer(147) covers a side surface of the active layer and the surface of the third semiconductor layer. The second semiconductor layer is doped in the second type mode. A first electrode and a second electrode are respectively and electrically connected to a semiconductor nano core(141) and the second semiconductor layer.
