<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact air core cyclotron installation cost and operating cost of which are low, and in which heavy particles can be accelerated until they have an energy available for the treatment of cancer, or the like, and a magnetic field distribution where the initial acceleration is smooth especially in the central region of the particle acceleration surface can be formed. <P>SOLUTION: A coil system 1 of an air core cyclotron comprises a pair of main coil units 2 which face each other in the axial direction and form an isochronism magnetic field in the radial direction, a pair of spiral sector coil units 4 which face each other in the axial direction and form an uneven magnetic field in the circumferential direction, and a pair of center coils 6 which face each other in the axial direction.
