<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe shift lever for surely and quickly selecting a shift position, in a vehicle using a shift-by-wire system. <P>SOLUTION: This shift lever 1 selects a shift mode on a vehicle side by moving between a travel shift position and a neutral shift position of the vehicle by operation force from a grip part 2, and automatically returns to the neutral shift position after moving to the travel shift position.
