<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeder and an image forming apparatus, which are able to release negative pressure in an adhering duct at the same time when sucking operation of the sheet is finished with a simple configuration. <P>SOLUTION: A suction shutter 37 is provided between the adhesion opening 34a of the adhering duct 34 and a suction fan 36. A communication opening 18 by which the inside and outside of the adhering duct 34 communicate is formed between this suction shutter 37 and the adhesion opening 34a. Additionally, a shield member 19 movable to an open position for opening the communication opening 18 and a shield position for shielding the communication opening 18 is provided in the suction shutter 37. When the suction shutter 37 is moved to the shield position, the shield member 19 is moved to the shield position for shielding the communication opening 18.
