WHEEL CHAIR LIFT SYSTEM AND METHOD

A wheelchair lift system that allows a wheelchair and a person sitting in the wheelchair to be selectively positioned at a standing height or a sitting height. A lift system that is attachable to wide variety of existing wheelchairs. In some embodiments, the lift system moves the entire chair, including the frame and wheels, with respect to the floor. Further, in some embodiments, lower support members adapted to provide stability to the wheelchair when it is in the standing position are retractable above the floor when the wheel chairs in the sitting position. In certain embodiments, the orientation (e.g., angle) of the support members does not change with respect to the wheelchair frame when the wheelchair is in the standing position or the sitting position.
