The server (19) is connected to different entities (6-8) comprising machine tools (2-5) for sharpening, coating or evaluating workpieces, for receiving data of tool units (18), tool holders (17) of machine tools and/or dynamic information of tool units. The received data is processed and stored in the databases (21,22) and updated information of the tools is generated by combining the received data in the databases.
