[Also in Division B8] A magnetic recording on a ticket is applied, for example by an inclined recording head 3 (Fig. 8) so that there are a series of parallel lines 7 of equal magnetization at an angle to the edges of the ticket. This prevents counterfeiting by domestic tape recorders. A further recording employing a different frequency may be superimposed with the lines of equal magnetization transverse to the ticket. The recordings may be applied in the form of lengths of pre-recorded magnetic strip secured to a paste board or similar base, and several such strips may either be arranged so that a single sensing head can check the ticket regardless of which way up it is inserted in the machine, or alternatively the strips may carry different recordings to be detected by different heads. The recordings preferably consist of several superimposed sinusoidal signals, which may be disposed at different angles to the ticket. A compound recording head with the gaps 13, 14 in V- or X-form may serve to scan the ticket for signals of two different frequencies disposed at different angles.</p> |
