<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism capable of representing gatherings of character string groups appearing in an image when results of character recognition on the image are output. <P>SOLUTION: A grouping part 113 notices one character string extracted by a character string extraction part 112, and searches the image for a character string included in a search range which gradually widens in a direction orthogonal to a direction in which characters of the character string range with the distance from the position of the noticed character string in the ranging direction, and is at a distance equal to or less than a threshold from the position. When the searched character string is included in search ranges of all noticed character strings searched for before the character string, the grouping part 113 groups them in the same group. A character string output part 115 outputs character strings whose characters are recognized by a character recognition part 114 so that the respective character strings are classified by groups and displayed.
