<p>Diorganotin derivatives of mercaptocarboxylic acid are produced by reacting a diorganotin oxide of formula (I), with a mixture of a mercaptocarboxylic acid of formula (II), and a thio-biscarboxylic acid of formula (III):- R'2SnO NSCR2(CR2)nCOOH (I) (II) S(CR2(CR2)nCOOH)2 (III) where R' = a satd. hydrocarbon gp; R = H, or a satd. hydrocarbon gp.; n = 0-2. At least one mol. of II is used per mol. of I. The reaction is carried out by heating the components dissolved in an ether solvent, pref. diisopropyl ether. On cooling the mixture, the diorganotin mercaptocarboxylate crystallises, is filtered and washed with methanol.</p> |
