<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that two or more optical receivers are required, minute roughness for diffusion is required, structure is complicated, a thickness to some extent must be provided since the light volume to be detected decreases when the thickness of cover glass is reduced, and as a result, the size of a level sensor increases in a conventional level sensor provided with a light source and at least two optical receivers in the vertical direction to a level encapsulated with liquid in which an air bubble is formed. <P>SOLUTION: A level sensor is constituted of: a case 1 made of acrylic resin, glass, etc.; a light source 2 composed of an infrared light emitting diode (LED) provided on one end 1a in the horizontal direction of the case 1, etc.; and an optical receiver 3 composed of a light receiving diode provided on another end 1b in the horizontal direction of the case 1 opposite to the light source 2, etc. Liquid 12 composed of oil in which an air bubble 11 is formed, etc. is encapsulated in the case 1.
