<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact projection type display device which facilitates both assembling of a device and replacement of an optical element. <P>SOLUTION: A projection type display device comprises: a light source; an illumination optical system which light from the light source enters; a color separation synthesis optical system including liquid crystal display elements illuminated by light from the illumination optical system; a projection optical system for projecting light from the color separation synthesis optical system to a projected surface; and an enclosure housing the illumination optical system and the color separation synthesis optical system. The illumination optical system has a replaceable optical element, and the enclosure is constituted in such a manner that the attachment direction of the optical element at a device assembling time and the removal direction of the optical element at an optical element replacement time are different from each other. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
