1,048,458. Chucks. R. GLIMPEL. May 7, 1965 [May 15, 1964], No. 19443/65. Heading B3B. In a split collet chuck 1 adapted to seat in a machine spindle 2 the split portion or tool seat is provided with an internal thread 8 which accommodates the threaded end of a tool shaft and terminates as an internal cone 9, the slit portion accommodating an axially movable arrester body 10, a portion of which tapers in the same direction as the cone 9. In a modification the arrester body is formed as a ball. In another modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the arrester body 14 has a conical portion 20 and a cylindrical end 16 on which a retaining ring 17 is seated. The ring 17 projects into an axial bore of the collet chuck which is limited by a small shoulder 18 at the smaller end of the internal cone 19 and maintains the arrester body in the collet chuck with axial play. The shaft 4 is screwed into the thread 8 prior to setting the collet chuck in the machine spindle 2 and the chuck is tightened in the conical bore of the machine spindle by a turnbuckle engaged in the thread 6. If now the shaft is caused to rotate it will move upwards, the upward movement of the shaft being stopped by the arrester body. |
