A butterfly valve having a peripheral lining 21 and a sleeve 24 co-operating with the lining to ensure fluid tightness is characterized in that the spindle B has a recess to receive the valve member and of sufficient depth to locate the median plane of the valve member on the axis of rotation, the spindle at each end of the recess having a sector-shaped cross-section to co-operate with the sleeve and limit rotation to one-quarter turn. Threaded radial holes in the recess receive securing bolts for the valve member while the sleeve is secured by bolts 23 in a recess 22 in the body A. The lining 21 is of synthetic plastics material. Bushes of anti-friction material are provided at each end of the spindle which is provided with a stuffing- box type seal at the end engaged by the valve control means.</p> |
