PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization element having excellent high-temperature reliability.

SOLUTION: The polarization element includes: a substrate; a metal layer formed on the substrate into stripes in plan view; a dielectric layer which is formed on the surface of the metal layer and is formed of a metal oxide constituting the metal layer; a first absorber portion which is formed on the dielectric layer on one side face side of side faces in the width direction of the metal layer and is formed of a metal oxide; and a second absorber portion which is formed on the dielectric layer on the other side face side of the metal layer and is formed of the metal oxide.
