The method involves carrying out assignment of voxels of records to different material classes based on attenuation values at different X-ray energies and/or variables and parameters of the material classes to achieve segmentation of the records. Adjustment of the parameters of the material classes is taken place by a clustering algorithm. The attenuation values and/or its quotient, texture information and/or edge information are chosen from the records as the parameters. Prototypes for the material classes to be evaluated are provided in a multidimensional parameter space.
