The invention defines hybrid photocatalytic coatings that comprise titanium-dioxide nanoparticles and nanoparticles of an inorganic oxide functionalized with a functional group selected from amine, methacrylate, cyano, acid, isocyanate and alcohol. The invention also defines a method for applying said coatings to different substrates and also the use of the coated substrates. Said alternative coatings exhibit acceptable photocatalytic properties and good adhesion, maintaining, at the same time, the intrinsic properties of the substrate coated therewith.
