PURPOSE: A mobile terminal and a method for inputting data using the same are provided to highlight virtual keys corresponding to keys adjacent to a proximity sensor on a key display area by an approach of an object. CONSTITUTION: A user input unit(131) is formed in a main body. A control command is inputted by the user input unit. The user input unit includes a plurality of keys(220). A proximity sensor(210) is arranged between the keys. The proximity sensor senses an approach of an object(240). A key display area includes virtual keys which are displayed on a display unit(151). If the approach of the object is sensed, at least some of the virtual keys are highlighted.
