PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide antibodies targeting folate receptor alpha (FRA) that overexpresses in a variety of carcinoma, and diagnostic and therapeutic agents for cancers.

SOLUTION: This invention relates to: the use of monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies that specifically bind to cells expressing FRA and have the ability in the alternative to become internalized by the cells and to induce an immune effector activity such as antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity; nucleotides encoding the antibodies; cells expressing the antibodies; and methods for detecting and treating cancer cells using the antibodies.
