The invention relates to a device for an external, non-puncturing identifier (i.e. which does not damage the skin or tissue of the animal) with an open portion (2) in the normal position thereof, which defines two ends (3a, 3b). Said two ends overlap when said portion is no longer open and becomes closed. Then, the two ends define a first inner opening (4) such as to be placed around a limb of the animal, for example a leg.
