In information retrieval apparatus wherein a particular film or strip from a bundle of superimposed films or strips of short length is selected and optically or otherwise viewed, the bundle 36 is wrapped concentrically around a hollow core 39 which is placed on a spindle 29 inside a chamber 11 so that the free ends 42 of the films &c. are in overlapping formation. The chamber 11 has openings 23, 25, 27 which meet the central cavity 15 tangentially and, one wall 21 has a lip 45 aligned with the opening 25, and another wall 17 is curved away from the opening 25. When the spindle 29 is rotated counter-clockwise by an indexing knob (41, Fig. 6), the free ends 42 each engage the lip 45, and then flip past the lip. When the free end of a particular film engages the lip 45, as denoted by the indexing knob (41), clockwise rotation of the knob will move that film through the opening 25 for optical &c. viewing. Films above the lip 45 will than be pushed into the opening 23, and films which have passed the lip will be pushed into the opening 27. The bundle 36 may comprise superimposed strips of film (35, Fig. 1), each bearing a single column of micro-images, or multiple columns of microimages (Fig. 2), and the strips are stapled at one end and provided with a slot (38 or 38<SP>1</SP>) for engagement over a pin &c. (40, Fig. 7), on the core 39. The chamber 11 is fitted removably in an optical apparatus for viewing (Figs. 5 and 6). Instead of strips of transparent film, the bundle may comprise strips of opaque material. |
