[Also in Division G2] A printing plate is produced by xerographically imaging a thermoplastic coated substrate, e.g.; aluminium foil, witha thermoplastic particulate developer and heat fixing the resulting image to such a degree that the fusing of the particulate and the thermoplastic coating is arrested prior to the destruction of the interstices between the particles. By using a particulate developer in which individual refractory particles are coated with a thermoplastic material the coating of the substrate may be omitted. In use the inked plate is wiped by a blade prior to the-transfer of the image to a copy sheet. The printing apparatus disclosed in the Specification comprises a web-fed rotary machine, Fig. 13, in which a plate 37 having a fused particulate image 87 is mounted on a cylinder 61. The latter rotates in an ink bath 73 maintained by a circulatory ink system in which ink from a reservoir 65 is spfayed by a pump 65 on to the cylinder. The plate is wiped by a blade 95.</p> |
