<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization conversion unit which can be easily manufactured, an image projection apparatus comprising the polarization conversion unit, a polarization conversion method and an image projection method. <P>SOLUTION: A non-polarized luminous flux is divided into two polarization components Ip, Is by a birefringent lens.
