Articles comprising a finely-divided filler and a binder of asphalt or bitumen are made by maintaining the filler as a dense fluidized bed at a temperature above the melting-point of the binder, injecting the binder in liquid or solid form into the bed, removing and cooling the resultant coated filler particles from the bed and finally compacting them to the required shape at an elevated temperature sufficient to cure the binder. The filler may be sand, clay, earth, metal ore or metal particles, carbon, coal, coke or graphite. Examples of articles that may be made are building elements, briquettes or electrodes. |
