摘要 1,077,034. Mattresses &c. UNITED STATES BEDDING CO. and WOOD CONVERSION CO. March 11, 1966 [June 14, 1965], No. 10826/66. Heading A4M. Spring mattresses or cushions are formed, in a continuous length which is subsequently cut transversely into individual units, by a method in which rows of coil springs 24 are fed between continuously advanced covering strips 10, 12 which are secured by adhesive to the ends of the springs 24, Alternatively, the spring assembly could be covered by a strip 10 on one side only, the other side being supported on a rigid base. As shown, the strips 10, 12 are drawn from rolls 14, 16 and are continuously coated with adhesive on one surface 22 by rollers 36, 38. The strips 10, 12 are drawn over backing bars 20 which are at a spacing which does not exceed the normal height of a spring 24. In alternative embodiments, the adhesive is applied in limited areas in the form of spaced strips, circles, or spaced rectangular areas, positioned to engage each spring end. Induction heaters (50) may be used to set the adhesive. The strips 10, 12 may be pre-coated with adhesive. Alternatively (Fig. 2) tapes (40) with adhesive on both faces may be first secured at one face to the strips 10, 12 and subsequently secured at their other face to the springs 24. Adjacent springs 24 may be joined by an integral wire connecting portion 26. The width of the strips 10, 12 preferably corresponds to the desired mattress length. The springs 24 may be more closely spaced around the mattress edges.
