PURPOSE: An electric car and a control method thereof for including a battery port for emergency are provided to reduce power loss by providing electricity to a drive motor instead of a main battery. CONSTITUTION: A drive motor(70) supplies power to an electric car. A main battery(50) supplies electricity to the drive motor A connection port(20) for an emergency battery is electrically connected to an emergency battery(10). A switch(30) for emergency connects the emergency battery to the drive motor. A battery voltage system(60) measures a voltage of the main battery and a voltage of the emergency battery. A controller(40) performs a control action for connecting the emergency battery, which is connected to the connection port of the emergency battery, to the drive motor. A main battery display unit(81) displays the residual quantity of electricity in the main battery. An emergency battery display unit(82) displays the residual quantity of electricity in the emergency battery.
