<p>Recycling of bituminous materials e.g roofing materials, comprises : (A) treating the material with a polar or non-polar solvent in an autoclave; (B) heating the mixture; (C) separating the liquid and solid phases; (D) washing and drying the recovered material, and further purification as required. Non-solvents for bitumen, such as glycols, or even pressurized hot water, allow separation of bitumen as a surface melt. Solvent extraction can employ e.g. toluene, xylene, commercial hexane, petroleum spirit, trimethylpentane diisopropylether, chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents, tetrahydrofuran, or pyridine.</p> |
